Flight sign WR Rashaad Carter
TRENTON - The Jersey Flight have signed veteran wide receiver Rashaad Carter. Carter is entering his seventh season of arena football. He joins the Flight after most recently playing for the Atlantic City Blackjacks. Following his college career at Tusculum University, Carter signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2013.
“Rashaad brings experience and knowledge from the highest level,” Flight head coach Terrence Foster said. “He has a very high football IQ and is very knowledgeable of the arena game. He is a physical receiver that will make smaller DB's pay for bringing him down. His experience playing in Coach Payton's offense and his time spent catching passes from both Danny and Warren in previous stops will enhance the evolution of our offense throughout the locker room.”
Foster also added, “Having a guy that can play several different positions adds to the depth and versatility of our roster. We feel Rashaad is a great fit for our scheme and the Jersey Flight community. Carter does great work with the youth and intermediate athletes in his community and we plan to implement him into ours.”
Carter made his debut in the Arena Football League in 2014 with the Spokane Shock. Carter was the definition of versatile during his rookie season, shining at his natural position of wide receiver with 74 catches, 780 yards and 17 touchdowns. He added six rushing touchdowns, including four in one game. He also recorded 13 tackles at jack linebacker and on special teams. Carter also spent time as the Shocks backup quarterback, and completed 6-12 passes for 114 yards, two touchdowns and an interception against the LA KISS.
Carter returned to Spokane in 2015 and continued his success in arena football with 67 catches, 837 yards, and 12 touchdowns, with 11 tackles and a fumble recovery on defense. Carter was teammates with both of the Flight quarterbacks, Danny Southwick and Warren Smith Jr. In Week 3 Carter caught nine passes for 96 yards and four touchdowns from Danny Southwick. Smith made his AFL debut in 2015, and connected with Carter 17 times for 228 yards and three touchdowns in three games.
Carter and Southwick reunited in 2016 with the Portland Steel, also joined by Flight offensive coordinator Anthony Payton who served as the WR coach for the Steel. Carter caught 45 passes for 425 yards and eight touchdowns, adding two rushing touchdowns. He then joined the Richmond Roughriders in 2018 and was a key part of the offense and top target of QB Arvell Nelson. Carter and the Roughriders played the Flight twice in 2018.
Carter joined the Atlantic City Blackjacks late in the 2019 season, recording a tackle defensively. He reunited with Warren Smith in Atlantic City. He is the CEO and founder of “CARTERFOR6” an athletic training and clothing brand company based in Portland, Oregon. Carter was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia.
