Cobras Add Defensive Lineman Derek Walker to Roster
GREENSBORO – Carolina continues to add to their defensive line today with the signing of defensive lineman Derek Walker. Walker will enter Cobras 2021 training camp for his rookie season of arena football.
Derek Walker (6’1, 280) spent his college career at Slippery Rock University, a Division II program out of Slippery Rock, PA outside of Pittsburgh, PA. After redshirting his freshman year in 2010, he saw action in over 34 games in three seasons with a total of 111 tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss, and 7.5 sacks as a starter on Slippery Rock’s defensive line. His best season came his senior year where he gained 53 tackles and four sacks within the 2013 season he also had four pass deflections and one block kick that year. Prior to graduated Walker was a Second-Team All-Conference defensive lineman and competed in the NFL combine in 2014.
“Derek had some opportunities with a couple NFL teams but nothing ever happened. He has a chance to dominate on the field again and that’s what we are excited to see out of him coming into camp”, said Coach Res. Coach Res also said, “We challenged him to show the league why he belongs there. If there is anyone prepared to take on that challenge, it is 100% Derek.”
Walker is a native of Pittsburg, PA where he attended Brashear High School and lettered in both football & wrestling winning the city league championship at his weight class in 2007.
