Pirates Dominate XFL Draft Pool

MASS PIRATES 1

17 former Massachusetts Pirates have been selected to the 2019-2020 XFL Draft Pool for the league’s upcoming draft on October 15 and 16. No other arena football team in the country can boast having ties to that many players advancing in the XFL’s selection process.

13 players were on the Pirates roster this past season and five were rookies, playing a year removed from college. Massachusetts President and General Manager Jawad Yatim could not be more excited, seeing players who enjoyed success with his organization having the chance to move on to the next level in their careers.

"This is what it's all about. I’m extremely happy for our guys to have an opportunity to get outdoors and continue to pursue their dreams of getting back to the NFL. Seeing former players of yours being granted the opportunity to showcase their abilities on a bigger platform is right up there with winning a championship for me. To be the arena team that has the most players represented in the country as well goes to show what kind of talent we've had lace 'em up here in Pirate country the past couple of seasons. We’re looking forward to following the draft next week and seeing the navy and teal being well represented across the XFL," Yatim said.

Of the 17, eight players worked on the offensive side of the ball for the Pirates, eight saw time on defense, and one was on special teams.

Offensive linemen Mitchell Bell, Tre’ Jackson, Brandon Hodges and Brandon Washington made draft pool along with wide receivers Thomas Owens and Rannell Hall. Two quarterbacks also made the list in Alejandro Bennifield and Darron Thomas. Thomas was with the team in 2018. Owens was the National Arena League’s offensive rookie of the year this past season.

Defensive backs Khalid Wooten and Lashard Durr earned a spot in the Pool along with linebacker David Luafatasaga. Five former Massachusetts defensive linemen caught the attention of XFL scouts. Du’Vonta Lampkin, Toby Johnson and Joshua Augusta played with the Pirates in 2019 while 2018 Pirates alumni Kaelin Burnett and Sam Montgomery also made the list. The lone special teams performer selected was kicker Tyler Rausa.

The XFL will begin play in February of 2020.

Pirates season tickets for the 2020 season are now available starting at $99.00.
