Another day, another big signing for the Columbus Lions as Desmond Reece joins the team. Reece, the Valley, Alabama native, played in five games for the Lions last season. He hauled in 14 catches for 128 yards and one touchdown.
While his impact on the Lions in 2019 was minimal, Lions head coach Jason Gibson sees a lot of upside in the budding wide receiver. “Desmond is a game changer. He came on late last season and prove to be a red zone giant. I can’t wait to see him with a full season under his belt.”
Reece played four years at Valley High School where he recorded 1,800 yards and 31 touchdowns. Those numbers got him the honor of being named team captain and the Most Valuable Player at Valley. Reece would move on to Tuskegee University. While is career started slow, he would end up leading the team in all categories his senior year. Reece caught 58 passes for 910 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was a big part of the 9-3 Tuskegee team that reached the second round of the NCAA Division II Playoffs.
