PIRATES GAME NOTES & TRANSACTION UPDATE

After a bye week, the Pirates go searching for their first road win of the season in White Plains, NY.  The Pirates are on a two-game losing streak. Massachusetts last road victory came in the 2018 season in a 62-35 victory over the Lehigh Valley Steel Hawks. This will be the Streets second home game of the season. They defeated Orlando 70 to 21 on April 20 in White Plains. The Streets were also on a bye week after a one-point victory over the Predators in Orlando on May 12. In their last two games, the Streets have been outscored by a combined total of 101 to 87.

Transaction Update
Since the Pirates, last game in Columbus the team has made 14 roster moves and is expected to make more before Monday’s game. This weeks’ moves included:

Introducing….
This will mark the first game in a Pirates uniform for Dexter McCluster, a former second round NFL draft pick out of Mississippi. The former NFL All-Pro enjoyed a seven year career before playing in Canada with Toronto last season. Former New England Patriot offensive lineman Tre’ Jackson, a former Super Bowl Champion and fourth round pick from Florida State, will also make his debut for the Pirates.
 
 
 
The Series
This will be the first meeting ever between the Pirates and the Streets. The teams will meet next weekend in Worcester at the DCU Center and two more times this season; July 5th in New York and July 27th in Worcester.
 
Nice to meet you.
This will mark the fourth time in franchise history that the Pirates will face an expansion team. Thus far the Pirates are 2-1 when facing an expansion team for the first time.  Last season the Pirates defeated Maine and lost to Carolina, both expansion clubs. This season the Pirates gave a fine “how do you do?” to the Orlando Predators to the tune of 45 to 12.
 
Coming off the bye week.
The Pirates were a perfect 2-0 after bye weeks last season defeating Columbus on June 16, 62-55 and on July 21, the Pirates bested Carolina, 56-53. Both wins were in the DCU Center.
 
The Coaches
Anthony Payton is in his first season as Pirates Head Coach. Payton was the offensive coordinator of the Pirates last season. This is his first meeting vs. New York.
In 26 years of coaching this is Payton’s first time as a head coach. His professional coaching resume includes stops as an offensive Coordinator in 2016 with Portland in the Arena Football League and in the Indoor Football League with Spokane in 2017. Prior he worked as a wide receivers coach with Louisville in the AF2 and also in the AFL with Las Vegas and Buffalo.
 
New York Head Coach Rick Marsilio is also in his first season.  Marsilio gained experience as a Head Coach in the AIF (American Indoor Football).  In 2016 he was the Head Coach in Harrisburg, PA with the Central Penn Capitals and in 2015 with the York, PA Capitals.  Marsilio was also on the staff with the Harrisburg Stampede for eight seasons, starting as a quarterback/wide receiver coach and working his way up to Offensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach.

Sean Brackett
Pirates QB Sean Brackett leads the National Arena League in rushing yards per carry with an 11.6 average. He is tied for the league lead with four rushing touchdowns. Currently his passing numbers stand at 82 of 152 (53.9%) for 807 yards, 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
 
Quayvon Hicks
Quayvon Hicks has the most rushing attempts in the NAL with 19 and the most rushing yards with 60. Hicks also averages 12 rushing yards per game with also tops the NAL.
 
 
Kick Returner
The Pirates Mardy Gilyard leads the NAL with the most kick return yards (230) and has the highest kick return average at 25.6 yards.  
 
 
EJ Nemeth
Streets quarterback EJ Nemeth leads the National Arena League in Total Offense Average with 6.7 yards per play and is tied with Sean Brackett with four rushing touchdowns this season. Nemeth also tops the NAL in Passing Efficiency with a 105.9 rating. His completion percentage of 62.1, and 7.4 yards per passing attempt are also league bests. His overall numbers are 77 of 124 (62.1%), 719 yards, 22 touchdowns and six interceptions.
 
Rob Jones
The Streets receiver leads the NAL with 105.8 receiving yards per game. He enters the game with 28 catches for 423 yards and eight touchdowns, averaging 15.1 yards per grab.
 
Defense
Thompson, Dover & Manhertz
Streets defensive back Denzell Thompson is averaging 6.3 tackles per game which is the best in the NAL. Thomas Dover is averaging 1.5 sacks per game to lead the league and defensive lineman Omari Manhertz has compiled 29 yards in tackles for a loss, most in the NAL.

Scoring
The Streets are averaging 52.2 points per game, best in the NAL. They also average 6.1 yards per play which is also tops the league.
 
The Running Game
The Pirates have the number one rushing offense with 132 yards and an average of 26.4 per game. The Pirates gain three yards per carry which is best in the league. The Pirates 44 rushing attempts also the most in the NAL.
 
Defending the Run
The Pirates also defend the run better than any team in the league allowing just 1.4 yards per carry and 9.6 yards per game. They have allowed just 48 yards rushing which is also tops in the league.
 
 
 
 
 
Team Passing
The Streets are the most efficient team passing the football with a 105.5 rating and their 61.6 completion percentage lead the NAL. The Streets 11.4 yards per completion and 7.0 yards per attempt are also league bests. The Streets have also only been intercepted six times this season which is a league low.
 
Kickoff Return
Massachusetts top the league in kick return yardage 291 yards for an average of 22.4 yards per return which also leads the league.
