Mason Espinosa, the 2018 National Arena League Offensive Player of the Year, has agreed to terms to return to Columbus Lions organization. Espinosa has received a myriad of accolades during his time in Lions blue, highlighted by becoming the NAL Offensive Player of the Year, as well as the first-team All-NAL quarterback selection in 2018. Espinosa will enter the 2019 NAL season as the league's all-time leader in passing yards, total offensive yards, passing touchdowns, and total offensive touchdowns.
As a two time All-NAL selection, Espinosa helped lead the Lions to their second straight NAL Championship appearance in 2018, as well as their 4th straight appearance in a championship game overall. A statement from Espinosa regarding the signing said, "I thank God for the opportunity to play this game for another year and I absolutely can not wait to get back to work for 2019. Our one and only goal this year is to bring that championship trophy back home to Columbus, and we will not stop until that goal is completed. I look forward to coming home and playing in front of the best fans in all of Arena Football!".
This will be Espinosa's 5th season of Arena/Indoor football, including his 3rd consecutively with the Lions. Prior to his tenure in arena football, Espinosa attended Rookie Mini-Camp with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2014 immediately out of college. The 6'4 signal caller attended college at Ohio Wesleyan University in Columbus, Ohio, in which he finished holding 17 different conference records, including throwing for over 11,000 passing yards throughout his career.
Stay tuned to find out who the Lions will sign next in their quest for the 2019 NAL Championship!
