Sharks look to extend Five-Game Home Win Streak against #1 Ranked Pirates
JACKSONVILLE- The Jacksonville Sharks (9-5) take on the number one Massachusetts Pirates (10-4) in the Shark Tank. Shark Week continues as the Sharks attempt to take a bite out of the Pirate ship and sink the Pirates to enter the final week of the regular season in the first place spot. This is the third matchup between the Sharks and Pirates this season, each team having one victory against each other.
Last week versus the Columbus Lions (8-5), the Sharks rallied and came back from being down by 20 after a deuce from Lions Kicker Tyler Rausa to enter the third quarter. The Sharks were down 18 at halftime and came back to defeat the Lions 53-48. The Sharks have never came back from an 18 point deficit at halftime and end up winning. Sharks Quarterback Patrick McCain was 22-of-34 for 312 yards, seven touchdowns, and no interceptions. He rushed three times for 19 yards. Wide Receiver Larry Brackins made his debut as a Shark and racked up 73 yards and one touchdown on six receptions.
Against the Lions, the home team has proven to be the better team each time, but that is not the case when it comes down to the Sharks and Pirates, as the Pirates have come up victorious in Jacksonville and the Sharks defeated the Pirates in Worcester, Massachusetts. Last game against the Pirates, the Sharks ended up winning with a 47-42 score. Quarterback Adrian McPherson was 21-of-33 for 246 yards, seven touchdowns, and two interceptions. Wide Receiver Tom Gilson also had a great game against the Pirates, catching the ball five times for 90 yards and two touchdowns.
The Pirates are currently the number one team in the NAL and are one game ahead of the Sharks. The Sharks need to win this game to take first place and possibly clinch home-field playoffs, depending on the outcome of the Maine Mammoths/Columbus Lions game and Carolina Cobras/Lehigh Valley Steelhawks game. For the Sharks to clinch the first place spot this weekend, the Sharks must win, the Mammoths must win, and the Steelhawks must win.
The Sharks are coming off of a bye week and are going to be rejuvenated and ready to play their last regular season game against the Lions.
This weekend’s game will be at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena on Saturday at 7:00 pm (ET). The game will be streamed on Youtube Live, a link to the stream will be posted on www.facebook.com/jaxsharks .
