Mammoths sweep Steelhawks 50-14
PORTLAND- The Maine Mammoths (5-8) continue their home winning streak, defeating the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (0-13) with a 50-14 score.
The game was interesting and slightly slow in the first quarter as the game was within seven points in the first half. Wide Receiver Devin Wilson put up the first points from Quarterback Jonathan Bane, but Lehigh Valley struck back, as Theo Reddick rushed in the end zone to tie things up. Wide Receiver Rob Brown gave the Mammoths some breathing room, finishing the first quarter with a 14-7 score. The Mammoths continued to score, as Brown caught another touchdown pass and a Pick Six from Defensive Back Martay Mattox. The Mammoths continued to score and eventually sent the game into halftime with a 37-7 score.
The Mammoths slowed things down and settled down in the third quarter, as they only scored from an interception that was returned for a touchdown. The only points in the fourth quarter from the Mammoths was from Kicker Henry Nell to give the Mammoths 50 points. Lehigh Valley looked to give the Mammoths a little fight, but were unable to finish the job. The game ended with a 50-14 score, which gives the Mammoths a win streak of three, a home winning streak of four games in a row. The Mammoths are unable to make the playoffs, but they are able to do some damage to the playoff bracket by defeating teams to lower their ranking.
The next Mammoths game is against the Columbus Lions (8-5) on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 7:00 pm (E.T.) in Columbus, Georgia.
