Jacksonville Sharks make Arena Football History

JACKSONVILLE- The Jacksonville Sharks (7-4) defeated the Maine Mammoths (2-8) last week 51-21, which gave them their 100th victory in franchise history. Out of nearly 130 arena football teams, only six teams have earned 100 victories that have remained active to this day.

When it comes to the number of seasons it took, the Sharks are in first place with nine seasons. Following the Sharks are the Philadelphia Soul with 10 seasons, Arizona Rattlers, Iowa Barnstormers, Green Bay Blizzard, and Columbus in a four-way tie for third place with 11 seasons.

“Our organization is very proud of this accomplishment, stated Operating Manager Jeff Bouchy.  We would like to publicly thank the many coaches, players, staff, and owners who have contributed to this great milestone. In particular, we would like to thank Head Coach Les Moss for helping us launch this franchise in 2010 and bringing our first victory and first football title to this community.  Additionally, we would like to thank legendary arena QB Aaron Garcia for taking a chance on us and forever engraving in our minds the last two seconds of our first championship in Arizona. There have been many other highlights, including our NAL Championship in 2017 under Coach Siaha Burley, Marco Capozzoli’s 52-yard FG to win a playoff game with no time remaining in 2012, and all those wins against Orlando.  Here is to the next 100 wins and many more titles!”

In the number of days, the Sharks are still on top by nearly a full calendar year. The Sharks’ first victory was on April 3, 2010, at Oklahoma City Yard Dawgs in their inaugural season. The Philadelphia Soul are yet again in second place, taking them 3,360 operating days, which is 357 days longer than the Sharks. It took the Soul longer than 3,360 days, but the team or league hiatus does not count, since the team can’t play football and negatively impacts the team’s records. In third place behind the Soul is the Green Bay Blizzard with 3,606 (603 days behind the Sharks). The Arizona Rattlers take fourth place with 3,675 days (672 days behind the Sharks). In fifth place, the Iowa Barnstormers are on the board with 3,736 operating days (733 days behind the Sharks). Lastly, the Columbus Lions take the last place with 3,760 days (757 days behind the Sharks).
