Jacksonville looks to continue it’s win streak in Week 8
JACKSONVILLE- The Jacksonville Sharks (4-3) face the Massachusetts Pirates (5-2) in Worcester, Massachusetts on Saturday, May 26, at 7:00 pm (E.T.). The last time the Sharks and Pirates faced, the Pirates won in a nail-biting 56-63 victory. The Sharks are currently on a three game win streak and show no signs of slowing down any time soon.
Last week against the Maine Mammoths, the Sharks trailed the whole first half, making things a bit challenging. A smooth second half only allowed the Mammoths to score three points, which helped the Sharks defeat the Mammoths 46-25. The Sharks are now 2-0 against the Mammoths and look to break the sweep that the Pirates have on the Sharks so far.
The last time the Pirates and Sharks met, the game was in Jacksonville. The starting quarterback was Patrick McCain, who injured himself that game and forced Ryan Walker to come in the game and help the Sharks the following week as well. Last meeting, McCain threw 13 completions on 23 attempts for 158 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. After Walker came into the game, he was 4-of-8 for 56 yards and one touchdown, that momentarily put the Sharks up. That all changed when the Pirates scored a touchdown, then blocked what was going to be the game-winning field goal from Sharks kicker, Nick Belcher. That game, Belcher was 4-of-7 on PAT’s, 0-of-2 for FG’s, and made two deuces, both of which were back-to-back. Fullback Derrick Ross had seven rushes for 21 yards and two touchdowns last game against the Pirates.
Last week, Adrian McPherson was the starter for Jacksonville and rallied his team to 176 passing yards for four touchdowns and two interceptions. Offensive Player of the Week, Chris Gilchrist, made six catches for 98 yards and two touchdowns in last weeks victory over the Mammoths.
Defensive Player of the Game last week went to Defensive Back Brandon Roe, as he helped contribute to a Sharks victory with 4.5 tackles, one fumble returned for a 39 yard touchdown, and one interception. Roe is an improving player on the Sharks defense, so be watch what he will be able to do this weekend against the Pirates. The defensive line was slowed down last week, but they were far from being stopped, as they rushed the quarterback on multiple occasions, got to the quarterback one time, and built pressure on the center, which caused the 39 yard fumble recovery to happen.
The Sharks face the Pirates a total of three times this season, this being the second time. This weekend’s game will be at the DCU Center on Saturday at 7:00 pm (ET). The game will be streamed on Youtube Live, a link to the stream will be posted on www.facebook.com/jaxsharks
