Owner and Director of Local Dance Studio set to take over Tuskhers
PORTLAND- The Maine Mammoths announced today the hiring of Michelle Merrill as the new Tuskhers Dance Team Director.
Competing from a young age, Merrill danced with the Maine Attraction, a national performance and competition team. During this time, she performed across the United States which included performances at Walt Disney World’s Epcot and Magic Kingdom, Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri, and in New York City were the team represented the United States at the International Dance Festival. She continued to study dance at the University of New Hampshire, transfering later to Endicott College, where she earned her Bachelors of Fine Arts degree.
Working alongside a local portrait photographer for 12 years, Merrill progressed her way to Senior Associate. Although having an apparent love for photography, her passion for dance eclipsed all else. Her flexible job gave her the ability to teach dance and perform professionally, furthering training with virtuoso's in the business. During this time, Merrill spent two years dancing for the NBA D-league team, the Maine Red Claws, being voted captain and MVP in their inaugural season. Her strong knowledge in business and marketing, tied with her passion for dance, led her to opening her own dance studio. Merrill currently owns and operates this studio, Dance Moves Maine, in Portland.
Merrill will lead the Tuskhers in their next home game on May 5th, for Cinco De Mayo Night at the Cross Insurance Arena. That night the Mammoths will face the NAL defending champs the Jacksonville Sharks, kickoff will be at 7pm and the game will be broadcasted on Portland’s CW WPXT-TV 51. In addition, the game will also be available to watch on Youtube Live, a link to the live feed will be posted on the Mammoths social media pages.
