Season Kicks Off to Great Crowds; Exciting Action
ATLANTA, GEORGIA – Week One in the National Arena League’s Second Season kicked off with a bang. Four of the six franchises were in action with two expansion teams hosting their first ever home games in team history.
Making their home debut, the Massachusetts Pirates did not disappoint their home crowd of more than 8,000 fans. Their offense scored early and often on their new purple and teal turf against the expansion Maine Mammoths in Worcester, MA. By games end, the score read 51-24 in favor of the Pirates.
Down in Greensboro, the Carolina Cobras played host to the defending NAL Champion Jacksonville Sharks in front of a crowd of over 6,000. The game was a back and forth contest, with the Cobras taking a lead into the third quarter. However, the Sharks would not be outdone, as reigning NAL Defensive Player of the Year Charlie Hunt intercepted a pass late in the contest to help secure a Week One victory for the Sharks by a score of 41 to 38.
“That was a great start to our second National Arena League Campaign” stated NAL Commissioner Chris Siegfried. “We witnessed great crowds, exciting on-field action, and stellar coaching. If Week One is an indication of how this season is going to go, we are in for an exciting year.”
