Burley lands a new receiving target for Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE – Andrew Opoku (6’4, 216) enters his first year of arena football and first season with the Sharks. Last season, Opoku signed by the Montreal Alouettes where he played with the team until being released in April. In 2016, Opoku attended rookie minicamp for the Baltimore Ravens before signing with the Indianapolis Colts for the 2016 NFL season. Opoku was waived by Colts and entered free agency before seeing regular season action for the Colts.
Opoku began his college career at the University of Connecticut where he played linebacker for two years for UCONN (2010-2011). During that time he played in 12 games recording 10 tackles. In 2012, he transferred to the University Delaware where he played both receiver and linebacker. Opoku finished his career at Delaware after appearing in 33 games catching four passes for 65 yards and one touchdown while landing 19 tackles, two fumble recoveries and one blocked punt on defense & special teams.
Opoku lived in Ghana during his early childhood, after coming to the United States at the age of six he became a native of North Brunswick, New Jersey where he played at North Brunswick High School. During his high school football career, he was a U.S. Army All-American honorable mention, a team captain and had 15 career interceptions.
