Sharks add All-IFL Defensive Back Robert Brown Former Spokane Empire Defensive Back joins Sharks

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville Sharks announced today that Defensive Back Robert Brown signed with the Sharks for his fifth year of arena football and first with the Sharks.

Robert Brown (5’10”,185) spent the last two seasons with the Spokane Empire. In 2017, Brown played in 11 games landing 40 tackles, 10 pass breakups and three interceptions. On special teams, Brown returned five kicks for 78 yards, averaging 15.6 yards per return. In 2016, Brown was named First Team All-IFL, starting in 16 games for Spokane, where he led the team in tackles with 104 (ranked sixth in the IFL) and had seven interceptions. On special teams, Brown recorded 17 kick returns for 262 yards and averaged 15.4 yards per return.

In 2015, Brown played for the Cedar Rapids Titans where he played in 12 games tallying 31 tackles, one interception and five pass breakups. As a return specialist, Brown led the IFL with nine missed field goal returns for 268 yards and one touchdown, while also recording 30 kick returns for 268 yards and two touchdowns. In 2014, Brown played in 11 games for the Titans as a rookie. Brown ended the season totaling 27 tackles, one interception, two pass breakups, one forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. During his rookie campaign, Brown had an impressive year on special teams returning 39 kicks for 758 yards and two touchdowns. In 2013, Brown signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League, where he competed in their 2013 training camp.

Brown spent his college career at Union College in Kentucky where he amassed 182 tackles, ten for a loss, nine interceptions, eight blocked kicks and six forced fumbles during his college career. Brown earned All Mid-South Conference honors his first three years as a Bulldog. During his senior season, he earned First Team All Mid-South Conference honors and earned a MSC Special Teams Player of the Week award.

Brown is a Florida native from Daytona Beach. Brown played high school football at Atlantic High School in Port Orange, FL.
