GAME PREVIEW: STEELHAWKS BATTLE THE RAGE - Corpus Christi Comes to the Lehigh Valley

flight plan week 7 vs corpus christi 4 29

Allentown, PA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks, after a week off, return to Embassy Bank Field inside the PPL Center to take on the Rage from Corpus Christi, Texas. The teams will face off Saturday night, kickoff is slated for 7:05pm. The game will be viewable locally on Service Electric/TV2 Sports.

Lehigh Valley (4-1) got their fourth win on the season when they defeated the Georgia Firebirds in their last contest. The ’Hawks have a well balanced offense; seven different Steelhawks have caught touchdowns and QB Warren Smith Jr. (27 td passes) has the ability to break out a big run when needed, scoring four times with his legs so far this season.

Defensively, DB Rodney Hall Jr. has led the team in tackles the last couple games. He now has 30 on the year, and three interceptions to go with six pass break ups. As a team, the ’Hawks have held opponents to just 15 third down conversions on 41 attempts.

The Corpus Christi Rage (0-4) come to the Valley, after having two straight bye weeks. With them comes a familiar face. Former Steelhawks quarterback Jake Jablonski signed with the Rage after their last game and will make his first appearance with the team in his return to the Valley on Saturday.

After spending last season with the team, Jablonski has a familiarity with the defense he will see on Saturday. The real question however will be how much of a familiarity he will have with his receivers. Jerome McGee leads their receivers with three touchdowns on 16 catches for 260 yards. WR Alex Coleman ties McGee with three receiving touchdowns and also returns to the Valley after being in camp with the team last season. Corpus Christi’s defense is led by LB D.J. Simon who has ten tackles, two and a half for a loss, two sacks, and a fumble recovery.

As we pass the halfway point of the season, the Steelhawks need to continue to clean up the small things and play complete games. With a history of fizzling as seasons wane down, Lehigh Valley needs to ramp up their performances and finish the regular season strong.

The Steelhawks finish their four game home stand with their game next week; the Wolfpack of Dayton returns to play on Embassy Bank Field in the PPL Center on Saturday, May 6th, 7:00pm kickoff.
