JACKSONVILLE – The (3-0) Jacksonville Sharks are off to their best start in the regular season since 2013 as they hit the road to face the (2-1) High Country Grizzlies at the George M. Holmes Convocation Center in Boone, North Carolina on Sunday, April 9 at 3:30 p.m.
This is only the second season in eight years of franchise history that the Sharks have started out with a 3-0 record (2013). The Sharks will attempt to extend their undefeated record to 4-0 as they battle against High Country’s powerhouse offense that crushed the Dayton Wolfpack on 94-6 on Saturday.
The Sharks won their second home game of the 2017 season against the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks 57-43. The Steelhawks put up a fight against the Sharks scoring back and forth throughout the game and but the Sharks defense held Lehigh Valley to only 8 points in the 4th quarter and put the game out of reach for the Steelhawks after quarterback Tommy Grady threw back to back touchdowns to wide receiver Thyron Lewis late in the 4th.
The Sharks’ outmatched the Steelhawks defense, as defensive back Laroche Jackson led the game with 8.5 tackles and defensive back Marvin Ross picked off two passes making Halloween in April a nightmare for Steelhawks quarterback Warren Smith. On offense, wide receivers Darryl Thompson and Thyron Lewis had three touchdowns each. Derrick Ross, brought back “the lawnmower” to the Shark Tank breaking into the endzone twice for the Sharks and remains at the top of the league charts with seven touchdowns so far this season.
High Country’s defense proved to be tough last week as they almost shutout Dayton from scoring until the fourth quarter. The Sharks will rely on quarterback Tommy Grady to continue leading the league in total offensive yards as he looks to his elite receivers to continue to make receptions. Marvin Ross has proven to be a force on the Sharks defense with five interceptions this season, catching at least one interceptions in each of the Sharks regular season games. High Country’s Jimmy Legree tops the league with six interceptions. Ross will have to keep up his pacing of multiple interceptions per game to potentially top Legree and help the Sharks to another victory.
