Shark veteran returns to the team with a standout performance
JACKSONVILLE – The National Arena League announced on Wednesday that Sharks veteran linebacker Charlie Hunt earned the National Arena League’s Defensive Player of the Week Award for his Week 1 performance against the Columbus Lions.
Hunt, a Jacksonville native, impressed the league last Friday when he wreaked havoc on the highly praised Columbus Lions offense, a team that was on a 10 game win streak until the Sharks defeated them in their home opener 56-41. The 6’4 225 pound Jack Linebacker had five tackles and one interception off of Lions quarterback Mason Espinosa which he returned for 35 yards and recorded another interception off Lions backup quarterback Darren Daniels during a Lions two-point conversion which he returned for a 2-point conversion.
This was Hunt’s first game with the Sharks since 2014. Hunt spent four seasons with the Sharks including his first year in 2011 during the Sharks championship season. Continuing his career with the Sharks he now has a career total of 162 tackles and 12 interceptions in a Sharks uniform. Hunt will return to the field Saturday for their home opener against the Georgia Firebirds at 7:00 p.m.
