Birnbaum to Bring Wealth of Broadcasting Experience to League
PONTE VEDRA, FLORIDA - The National Arena League announced today that George Birnbaum was named the League’s Director of Broadcasting. Birnbaum will facilitate all streaming needs for NAL games and will oversee the future national broadcast productions of the League.
“We are pleased to add George to our League’s office, said Commissioner John Gregory. His wealth of broadcast knowledge will be instrumental in expanding the league and it's presence.”
With over 35 years of experience, Birnbaum has been exposed to both the broadcast and media industries with a deep background in engineering and operations.
Birnbaum has spent the 14 years as Vice-President/Co-Owner of Gemstone Media, Inc. The business is a full-service production company, specializing in live sports entertainment at all levels including AFL, NFL, MLB, MLS, NASL and ABA for local and network broadcasts. Birnbaum has also had experience working directly with ABC/CBS Sports, ESPN, NFL Films, beIN Sports, BSky, NHK, ADN, CSS and Fox Sports. In addition to running Gemstone Media, Birnbaum manages a team of freelancers in excess of 80 people to cover sports and entertainment events in the Southeast.
Birnbaum served six years in the United States Air Force as a Television Engineer, followed by 27-years for Media General Broadcast Group as Chief Engineer/Operations Manager at WCWJ-TV. He also served as project manager for Media General on several high-profile corporate initiatives. Birnbaum has worked in the sports-entertainment business covering numerous major broadcast events including the Super Bowl, World Series, Daytona 500 and Tournament Players Championship as an Executive Producer, Tech Manager, EIC, V1 and V2.
Birnbaum is married to his wife, Mary for 33 years. The couple has two adult children, George Jr. and Lindsey Marie, along with a Granddaughter Avery Grace.
