George Birnbaum - Director of Broadcasting

GB Headshot 020117George Birnbaum is the Director of Broadcast for the NAL. Birnbaum’s experience spans 35-years in the broadcast/media industry with a deep background in Engineering and Operations.

He is Vice-President/Co-Owner of Gemstone Media Inc in Jacksonville Florida, 14-years in business. The business is a full-service production company specializing in live sports entertainment at all levels including AFL, NFL, MLB, MLS, NASL, and ABA for local/networks broadcasts. Network interaction includes ABC/CBS Sports, ESPN, NFL Films, beIN Sports, BSky, NHK, ADN, CSS and Fox Sports. Outside of six full-time staff, Birnbaum also manages a team of Freelancers in excess of 80 people to cover sports and entertainment events in the Southeast.

Birnbaum served 6-years in the United States Air Force as a Television Engineer, followed by 27-years for Media General Broadcast Group as Chief Engineer/Operations Manager at WCWJ-TV. He also served as project manager for Media General on several high-profile corporate initiatives. Outside of his day-to-day job in corporate America, Birnbaum has worked Freelance in the sports entertainment business covering numerous major broadcast events including Super Bowl, World Series, Daytona 500 and Tournament Players Championship to name a few as Executive Producer, Tech Manager, EIC, V1 and V2. His technical and production knowledge has played a vital role in his business success.

Birnbaum is married to his Wife- Mary for 36 years. The couple has two adult children, George Jr. and Lindsey Marie, along with a Granddaughter Avery Grace.
